This article provides troubleshooting tips for first-time CoastOne Press Brake Owners.
CoastOne Electric press brakes are easy to operate, reliable, and modern. And unlike many traditional hydraulic brakes, they have low power consumption and extreme accuracy.
The following are helpful operator troubleshooting tips.
What do I do when the CoastOne Press Brake Touch Screen does not startup?
If the touch screen does not startup, make sure that the machine power cable is connected properly and that the fuse of the power supply is ok. Have an authorized person open the cabinet door and check that the fuses inside the cabinet are ok. Check that the power supply cable to the screen is ok.
What do I do when the blue safety circuit reset does not work?
If the blue light does not light up after starting up, an authorized person can open the cabinet door and check the fuses, the cables going to the reset button, and the functionality of the button’s LED.
If the blue light does not go off:
- Check that the emergency stop button is returned to normal position by twisting it.
- Check that the back door is properly closed. Try to open and close the door to make sure that the safety switch key goes into the switch.
- An authorized person can open the cabinet door and inspect the safety circuit with the help of electric schematics.
- If the machine has a lazersafe safety device, check the PCSS error code.
What do I do if Manual mode cannot be entered?
If you cannot enter Manual mode, check the status of the machine from the alarm and warning page, which can be accessed via this button:
What do I do if the reference run or the manual jog does not work?
If the reference run or the manual job doesn’t work, troubleshoot with the following:
- Try to jog each axis in both directions in manual mode, and before the reference run try to jog axes away from the reference limit switch.
- Check the torques of the axes while jogging manually. Torques should never exceed 100%.
- Test that each axis stops correctly for the limit switches of both directions. From the troubleshooting page, you can see what the cause of the stop problem was. To access the troubleshooting page, click this button:
- If the troubleshooting page doesn’t identify the problem, the limit switch itself might pass diagnostic information to support/service.
- If the machine has more than one Y-axis, check that the Y-axes absolute positions are the same when in manual mode. If this is not the case, contact support/service.
- Note that when trying to jog Y downwards, the pedal must be pressed, and when upwards, the pedal must not be pressed. For particulars, refer to the “manual mode” section of the User Manual.
What do I do if I cannot access the press brake controller bend info page?
Note that an existing program must be opened or a new program has to be created before the bend info page can be accessed. Also, the program must have tools selected.
You can retrieve bend settings from the USB stick that is provided:
The USB stick is the default storage media of the machine, containing bending programs, tools, 2D files, parameter backup, and frame deflection databases.
What do I do if tool info is not visible?
You can open a tool from the USB stick, or create a tool from the information given via the USB stick.
What do I do when, while trying to start auto mode, a notification appears?
Check the list of notifications in the “Notifications and Warnings” section below.
What do I do if the axes will not move while in auto mode?
If the axes will not move while in auto mode:
- An authorized person should check the condition of the pedal and its cable. Check that pedal is not pressed into position 3. Release it using the mechanical button on the pedal.
- If the machine has a lazersafe safety device, check the PCSS code.
- If the main page appears with a notification, check the list of “Notifications and Warnings” below.
- If the Y-axis won’t start the opening stroke, the likely reason is that some or all of the Y-axes haven’t reached the target bottom dead point. Check the tool info, bend angle, and angle correction values. An authorized person can enter settings that make visible separate Y-axes bottom dead points and actual positions, to make it easier to judge if this has happened.
What do I do if, in auto mode, the axis is positioned incorrectly and the bending angle result is more than what material tolerances would allow?
If this problem occurs, do the following:
- If an alarm appears, find out the cause and explanation from the alarm or the troubleshooting page.
- An authorized person can check reference values and adjust if required.
- Refer to section “Using the Control” in the User Manual.
- Check the tool info and that the actual tools set for the machine correspond.
- Check everything in the bend info page.
- Try to re-create the program.
- Note that when using a tight die V opening proportional to the thickness, material thickness, and tensile strength tolerances can cause up to a 2-3 degree difference in angle.
CoastOne Press Brake Error Messages, Notifications and Warnings
- “Y pos < 0.00”: Y-axis position is negative. Check tool info and/or manually lift Y-axis.
- Punch image and question mark: Check the punch info. See the “Punch Menu” section of the User Manual.
- Die image and question mark: Check the die info. See the “Die Menu” section of the User Manual.
- Thickness symbol and question mark: Check the thickness in the program.
- Angle symbol and question mark: Check the bend info page.
- Notification with an Axis identifier, like “Y”, “X” tai “R”, and notifier “++” or “- -“: This means that the software limit has been exceeded. “++” means upper or back; “–” means lower or front.
Check the program values. An authorized person can check the software limit values in the machine parameters.
- “X Back gauge finger exceeds the die V opening edge, making the bending impossible and causing a risk that the back gauge finger is between the tools.
- “Y following limit exceeded”: One of the Y-axes lags behind too much from the calculated trajectory. If this appears during bending, the likely reason is that the calculated bend force is too small. Check the tool info, the bend info, and the current material info. If this appears during fast closing or opening, your first remedy is to decrease the fast closing or opening speed via the settings. Refer to chapter “Settings” section of the User Manual, and contact support/service.
- “Y tilt limit exceeded”: The allowed difference between separate Y-axes is exceeded. If this appears during bending, the Y-axes have too big differences in their bottom dead points.
The likely cause of this is due to a crowning adjustment. Check the crowning adjustment value. If the bending angle result requires such a crowning adjustment that this warning appears, contact support/service.
If this appears during fast closing or opening, your first remedy is to decrease the fast closing or opening speed from the settings Refer to chapter “Settings” section of the User Manual, and contact support/service.
What are some PCSS error codes when the CoastOne Press Brake is working as expected?
The following error codes indicate operational errors, and are not indicative of a fault with the machine itself:
- 00CB: The back door is open.
- 00CC: The emergency stop button is not released.
- 4102: The lazersafe receiver angle is not adjusted properly.
- 4203: No material is sensed at the expected position. Always have a sheet with programmed thickness above the die.
- 4220: The lazersafe system detects an obstruction in an unexpected position. Check the tool info to make sure that both the lazersafe transmitter and the receiver lenses are clean and that they are adjusted to the correct height.
In several lazersafe error cases, a good first remedy is to try is to decrease the fast closing or opening speed from the settings. Refer to the “Settings” section of the User Manual.
