Automec, Inc.-Waltham, MA- the leader in Press brake solutions, filled a spot on the Automec team towards the end of 2020. Gary Davis, Automec’s newest team member, takes the title as Manufacturing & Fabrication Manager.
Back in September 2020, the current pandemic left companies deciding when might be a good time to hire again. With an open position at Automec , Automec decided it was appropriate to bring aboard different talent to the Engineering side and add a Fabrication Manager. After a handful of applicants, Gary Davis was brought aboard. After sitting down with Gary, Automec got to know his past roots and background experience.
Gary Davis, a Lowell, MA native, graduated from Greater Lowell Voc-Tech. Gary’s background consists of Sheet Metal Fabrication, and covers all aspects from A to Z. After leaving his previous job as a Production Manager on the North Shore, he brought many supplier relationships with him. Networking with a common vendor of Automec’s brought Gary aboard.
Sitting down with Gary, he mentioned, “Gary, can ya?”is the question of the day, and also his nickname, as a joke. He is willing to help an employee who comes to him with a task they need assistance with. Since day 1, Gary has quickly grabbed the ropes at Automec, picking up where the previous staff member left off, and bringing his own pace to projects such as building gauging systems daily, building prototypes parts where needed, and helping test systems. Gary’s timed himself to do three HDX gauges in 1 day at Automec, given he focuses on them without any “Gary, can ya” interruptions!
Ordering inventory is one big project that Gary has his eyes on for future goals with Automec. He is looking to prioritize and take his networking and negotiation skills to bring prices down when ordering mechanical parts for Automec. Gary has already connected with past vendors he personally used at his previous employer to doing business with Automec. Within Gary’s first few years at Automec, Gary hopes to accomplish a QBCR code for inventory, with our Engineers, Blair and Jack.
Gary has fit right in at Automec making Automec his home away from home. He’s even brought in high tech Bose speakers in his designated department to listen to his favorite music to make the work day go by.
When hes not working, Gary enjoys the outdoors riding his bike and on a rainy day, playing video games at well known Arcades. Gary is comfortable working for a small company and gets along with everyone. Gary’s current project for Automec has been to create an outdoor space for the company to enjoy summer outings and soon to be BBQ’s! Personally, he has just completed a big move to Haverhill, MA with his girlfriend.
Gary is looking forward to taking his career path to the next level within our organization. Automec is thrilled to have him aboard!
